That’s got to be one of the grossest things I’ve ever seen. Yuck!

  2. balbonics Says:

Hmmm… maybe for bbq or fried chicken. But yeah not in a broth. May be a better marketing strategy to call it “blue chicken” huh? … or “century chicken” he he

Hi Manong Guard, you know me, founding member of the Manong Guard Fan Club. Am just a bit uncomfortable when you make pintas Kid’s mom’s signature dish. Stop it na!!! But I still love you.

  3. E.J. Says:

cheese smells like hell, but tastes like heaven. don’t let appearances get to you. like, a lot of native kakanins look like fecal matter, but i’m sure we find them yummy. ;)

this dish is just tinola with a different looking kind of chicken - voila “exotic tinola”. hehe. it doesn’t look adverse to me.

serve with seaweed with century egg side dish and black sago with gulaman drink. haha. a potential fear factor combo meal.

  4. rick Says:

Nicely put E.J. … it does look scary/gross to me too but no different from our other dishes…I mean I love dinuguan and that’s not exactly the most appealing dish to look at or balut. mmmmm….

  5. Mishi Says:

Hmm, I gotta listen to this ep.. I’m wondering how the chicken is black. But I love bokchoy so I might enjoy this recipe.

  6. Obet Says:

Damn, it looks like Tracy Chapman’s elbows.

  7. Obet Says:

BTW, our handsome boxer Pacquiao won. 10th round TKO. Mongo beaner over Pinto beaner. MG: How about a report on how SM is charging P300 to watch? True or not?

  8. Mishi Says:

Yeah, I just heard the news. Woo XP I don’t watch boxing though - it’s much like sabong XP

  9. E.J. Says:

btw, that lame last line by jack black in king kong is a quote from the original release - the exact/same last line.

  10. Edwin and Cherry Says:

    We’re present!!!
KFX, your tinola looks odd but sure sounds great! are you sure it’s free from bird flu? maybe we’re just used to eating normal chicken…

  11. Mishi Says:

But you know what they say. Once you turn black… XP

  12. Juned Says:

First time I learned of black chicken being used for tinola. Kudos !
What I know of , and it may not be a lot and purely anecdotal, Black Chicken is boiled and the broth is taken in, said to improve the health. A few years they came up with Brand’s Chicken Essence - basically the processed broth from black chicken. Incidentally, It is popular fare for a certain group, you have a thriving trade of black chicken at Arranque Market and the Market along Dapitan Street.

SM did charge 300 a person to watch the fight uninterrupted. Not only SM but Rockwell too.

I don’t understand why you even bought that black chicken.

I’ve had it before at Chinatown in Manila and it was good.

    MG / jhamie:

You both mentioned Brand’s Chicken Essence my mom who lives in Manila takes this everyday. What is the health benefits of this drink?

di naman kasi ginagamit ang black chicken sa tinola eh. pero kudos on your courage at culinary exploration hahaha. i haven’t tried black chicken for anything though but I am curious…

  20. phooey Says:

omg…. that jsut looks freakin nasty… I don’t even want to know why it is black… uhg………………….

it’s one of those things where people will watch you eat it and cringe and then ask..

    “what does it taste like?”

because it looks like a chicken that died.. had a burial.. big ceremony.. put in the grave and then some voodoo woman resurected it for your dinner…

    ahhh…

  21. Roszi26 Says:

Hahaha… funny! I was browing for a tinola recipe to be used by our Indian Chef… i was almost fell over my chair when i saw this picture and oookkk i was actually thought that this was a joke and the picture was a froggggg! Where to get black chicken? Is it really existing? for Sure our European boss will pay the catering company to burn the cafe if we serve this… ahahaha!

[…] I will not stop talking about recipes for example, but hopefully, even if I have to make it up, inject more Philippine ideas into the recipes, such as: “Oh the one thing I really miss in the Philippines is chicken tinola, specially the native chicken that my lola used to make when we went to Iloilo. The closest thing I found to a native chicken is this black chicken in Chinatown. However, it sucked. Oh, and did you know that they sell frozen malunggay and sili leaves here in New York?” Something like that. I want the topics to be about things that not only Manong Guard and I, but everyone can relate to. Though admittedly, I hated it, the Kris Aquino topic was a hit. […]

  23. lorein Says:

why its black it is fried before its being onthe soup or what?
